Your Questions Answered: FAQs About Wedding Flowers
Share
Planning a wedding is an exciting journey, but I know that when it comes to the "floral" portion of your to-do list, the questions can start to pile up! From budgets to seasonality, there is a lot to consider.
As a floral designer here in Wisconsin, I believe the more informed you are, the more you can relax and enjoy the creative process. Here are the answers to the most common questions I hear from couples planning their upcoming weddings.
1. How far in advance should I book my floral designer?
For peak wedding season (May through October), I recommend booking 9 to 12 months in advance. If you are eyeing a popular holiday weekend or a specific date in the current year, the earlier the better! This ensures your date is secured on our calendar and gives us plenty of time to refine your mood board and source specific blooms.
2. When should I have my first floral consultation?
Ideally, you should have your venue booked and your wedding attire chosen before our deep-dive consultation. Knowing the "vibe" of your space and the silhouette of your dress helps me design arrangements that complement—rather than compete with—the rest of your wedding aesthetic.
3. How much should I budget for wedding flowers?
While every wedding is unique, a good rule of thumb is to allocate 10–15% of your total wedding budget to florals. If you are dreaming of large-scale installations (like floral walls or hanging ceilings), you may want to budget closer to 20%.
Pro-Tip: Being transparent about your budget from the start helps me suggest the best "bang-for-your-buck" blooms to achieve your look!
4. Can you recreate a bouquet I found on Pinterest?
Pinterest is a fantastic tool for showing me the feeling and color palette you love! However, I always remind my couples that flowers are living things. Because of seasonality and Mother Nature, I use Pinterest as inspiration rather than a literal "copy-paste." I’ll take that inspiration and create something custom that is even better (and fresher!).
5. What are the best ways to repurpose ceremony flowers?
I love helping couples stretch their floral budget! Many ceremony pieces can be easily moved to the reception:
- Aisle markers can become bud vases for the cocktail tables or cake table.
- Altar arrangements can be moved to frame the head table or the bandstand.
- Bridal bouquets make the perfect centerpiece for the sweetheart table!
6. I love a specific flower, but it’s out of season. What do I do?
Don't worry! One of the best parts of my job is finding the perfect florals for your vision. We will chat through your must-haves and seasonality to make sure I am bringing your vision to life.
7. Do you offer more than just wedding flowers?
Yes! At Diana Dreger Designs, we love being a part of your entire journey. We also provide custom florals for:
- Bridal Showers
- Rehearsal Dinners
- Engagement Parties
- Baby Showers
